Top Ten Tuesday # 18: Best Secondary Characters

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week a new topic is given and weeks topic is:

 Top Ten: Secondary Characters

I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore: Bernie Kosar - he only LOOKS like a beagle
The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa: Jackal, the dangerous "blood brother"
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell: Reagan, the brusque, sometimes surly college roommate. (Note: I'm only halfway done, so if Reagan becomes a bitch, we will have to scratch this one off.)
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak: I can't wait to see how Geoffrey Rush portrays Hans in the film.
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins: Cinna
The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson: Ximena: mother figure/nurse/guardian
Unearthly by Cynthia Hand: Maggie Gardner, Clara's mother is the epitome of a mom
Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion: M, the zombie sidekick with a heart
School Spirits by Rachel Hawkins: Torin, the warlock imprisoned in a mirror
Not a Drop to Drink by Mindy McGinnis: Stebbs: neighbor/father figure who teaches Lynn about humanity

Your turn!  Who are your favorite secondary characters?

  4. Jackal is such a complex character - I can't decide if I hate him or love him. I gave an honorable mention nod to Kanin on my list.

  5. Great list Steph. Jackal is a great addition! He was so well done and easy to hate and love all within the stretch of 2 books. Those are my favorite types of characters.

  6. Loved your list, Steph! I'd have to say that I think all secondary characters in Collins' world are so vibrant and rich. I love that they each have their own tragic yet complex backgrounds, which is the mark of a truly wonderful storyteller.

I also loved M in Warm Bodies, although, Rob Cordry stole my heart in the movie version.

  7. I just recently read School Spirits and I agree that Torin is certainly a memorable character. However, his role will definitely increase as the series continues. Because it was the first novel, he was not very important to the plot line in my opinion. He came off as a very sketchy character who would trick people to get his way.

  9. I've only recently read I Am Number Four, and forgot how great a character Bernie Kosar is!

Cinna is a great choice, but if I'd remembered The Hunger Games when compiling my list (!) I'd have gone for Finnick. I loved him so much.

  10. Ahhh Jackal! I love him - so sarcastic and outspoken!

Stebbs was such a surprise character, he was so wise without being condescending.

  12. Hans was one of my favorite characters in "The Book Thief", too. Loved the way he took care of Liesel, and showed her so much affection and patience.
