Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week a new topic is given and weeks topic is:
Books That Should Be Movies
Books to movies are always a dangerous proposition. I would love for a filmmaker to take a chance on these:
The Waking Dark by Robin Wasserman: (You can read my review here.)
Boy Nobody by Allen Zadoff: (You can read my review here.)
Not a Drop to Drink by Mindy McGinnis: (You can read my review here.) This could be made into a movie with very few changes to the story. Trying to survive in a world without sufficient water, where people are willing to kill to get it, would make for a terrifying movie.
Your turn! Which books would you like to see as movies?

Rose Under Fire by Elizabeth Wein

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell: (You can read my review here.) Fangirl is a great look at freshman college life, from the perspective of an introvert. I'd be curious to see if the filmmakers would resist casting beautiful people in the lead roles.
Just One Day by Gayle Forman: (You can read my review here.) Aside from the European travel scenes, this is a great story of romance and heartbreak. The film could follow the plot of Just One Day, and just show us Allyson's perspective, or it could combine it with the coming sequel and weave in Willem's story. The audience would know what Willem was up to, even though Allyson wouldn't.

The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey: (You can read my review here.) I believe the movie rights for The 5th Wave have already been sold, so let's hope it happens. I have to admit while I was reading this book, I was thinking, "Hmmm...Yancey and/or his publisher were thinking ahead to the potential film, and they're attempting to keep the special effects costs low." Yes, I'm cynical. You'll know what I mean if you read it.
In the After by Demitria Lunetta: (You can read my review here.) This is a great mix of a survivalist story and sci-fi, with two great lead characters.

To Paraphrase The Beatles: Take a Bad Book and Make It Better

Conjured by Sarah Beth Durst: (You can see my review here.) Allow me to explain. The book was a bit of a mess. But, the ending is CRAZY, and I kept picturing it as a film in my mind. It could go one of two ways - absolutely laughable or intensely creepy.

Love the list! I've only read two of these (although I can't wait to get my hands on Fangirl... I love Rainbow Rowell!).
ReplyDeleteI like the categories of how you broke it all up :) Hope you have a great week.

oh so many that are on my TBR

I love how you broke it up into genres! Man, I really need to pick up my copy of The 5th Wave & read it!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read Not a Drop to Drink but the premise alone would make an interesting movie, I agree!

In the After could be really scary! The blurb imprinted on my brain. And I remember reading your review for Boy Nobody and seeing the book as a movie. For a movie girl I can't think of any books I want turned into movies.
ReplyDeleteI've seen Not A Drop To Drink and the 5th Wave pop up on several lists, clearly I need to check these books out! Great list :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of these (shame on me) but I really want to read The 5th Wave and everyone keeps mentioning Not a Drop to Drink that I can't help getting excited to read that!

I can't believe I actually haven't read any of the books on your list yet! This only means that I have serious catching up to do!

GIVEAWAYS: American Girl on Saturn and Heist
Oh, some great choices! Elizabeth Wein, Rainbow Rowell, Gayle Forman -- I'd go for any of these! Plus, The 5th Wave would be amazing as a movie or TV show!

You have a lovely list, most of which I haven't read yet. However, I have some of these in ARCs, like The Waking Dark and Conjured. I'm glad to see you liked them!
ReplyDeleteMy TTT!
Now I'm ALL about horror/dystopias/thrillers being made into movies! I think Not A Drop To Drink would be particularly freaky being that it's such a plausible scenario. It would be kinda like The Walking Dead (sans the zombies) in that it really focuses on the human element more so than the apocolyptic scenario that's present.
ReplyDeleteAnd just so you know, they ARE making The 5th Wave into a movie! SQUEE!
I've seen Rose Under Fire on Netgalley but never read it. Great picks!

I haven't read any of the books on your list, but I'm planning on reading The 5th Wave soon. And I'm really looking forward to reading Fangirl. The rest of your list sounds so good though!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I bet the movie people would cast pretty people as Cath and Levi, etc. Maybe I'm just jaded, though. I actually think Attachments by Rowell would make a wonderful Rom Com. I do think fangirl would be a hard movie to pull off. I love, love, love the book, though.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that I forgot about In The After! I loved reading that book! I thought that it was very exciting and could easily be made into a movie. I reviewed that book on my blog. Make sure you check it out!
ReplyDeleteRead my TTT list: http://booksavvyblog.blogspot.com/
I just picked up the Fith Wave and it is on EVERYONE'S list, lol. I'm so excited to start it now, but I'll be thinking about the low budget haha. My TTT
ReplyDeleteI like that you've broken yours down by genre! Fangirl is on my list to read, I'm really looking forward to it.
ReplyDeleteHere's my list.
Sarah
Between Shades of Grey would make a great tear-jeaker movie! Not a drop to drink seems to be popular for a movie/show too. I really must read that one soon.
