Enter below to win signed copies of Override and Shutdown by Heather Anastasiu!

Heather Anastasiu is offering signed copies of her books, Override and Shutdown to one lucky winner.  This contest is open to residents of U.S. and Canada.

Goodreads Synopsis:  Zoe is free. She has escaped the enslavement of the Community, disconnected from the hardware that had controlled her every thought and emotion, and evaded capture by the Chancellor intent on killing her. She is finally free, but she is far from safe.

Zoe and Adrien hide themselves from detection at the Foundation, an academy that trains teen glitchers to fight in the Resistance movement. Together, Zoe and her new team of superhuman fighters must risk their lives to rescue other glitchers and humans from the Chancellor's control. Challenges abound at every turn, and Adrien, who has become silent, distant, and tormented by his visions of the future, only adds to the growing certainty of defeat. But worst of all, as Zoe's team fights against impossible odds, distrust and betrayal leads to the terrible discovery that their greatest threat could already be lurking behind the safe walls of the Foundation.

Full of high-adrenaline action and shocking twists, Heather Anastasiu's Override is an exciting continuation of this popular young adult trilogy.

Goodreads Synopsis: The battle is all but over, and hope seems to be lost. Zoe and her fellow Resistance fighters are on the run, having lost their home, their protection, and their leader. They are outnumbered and outmatched by the powerful corporation that controls the world, and the cruel Chancellor is inches away from completing a scheme that would kill most of humanity. Zoe's only remaining option is to chase the impossible dream of upending the Link system, freeing the world from the hardware that controls their thoughts and emotions, and hope it will trigger a revolution.

The plot requires a nearly impossible mission to infiltrate the dangerous Community, and it is a task that Zoe must unfortunately complete alone. With challenges and surprises at every turn, nothing goes according to plan. Adrien's visions of the future now show two possible outcomes: one in which they succeed, and one in which humanity falls. It all lies in Zoe's hands.

Full of romance, high-adrenaline action and shocking twists, Shutdown is a heart-pounding conclusion to an exciting sci-fi adventure trilogy for young adults.

  1. Take away the emotion for people to hurt my feelings.

  2. That's a tough question. I think most feelings are important to important to express- maybe the feeling of exhausted anger- when you are angry but you are just tired?

  3. I don't think so. Emotions are human and I wouldn't want to tamper with it.

  4. No I wouldn't. Good or bad they are what makes us human.

  5. I don't think I would have an implant to take my emotions away. It makes us who we are. Without emotions, we are basically a robot.

  6. I'd wipe out self-conciousness. I'm so easily embarrassed and flustered.

  7. I wouldn´t do it.

  8. I don't think so... I would probably wipe out something necessary and become an outcast because I know longer care what people think of me or something like that. I imagine every emotion has a purpose!

In response to your question of
If you could have an implant that would prevent you from experiencing a specific emotion, would you do it? Which emotion would you wipe out?
Yes i would have the implant to prevent me from experiencing anger.
I find that is an emotion that doesn't solve anything anyway.
Thank you for having this giveaway!!!!!!!

  12. I would not block out an emotion. Not even anger.

Having emotions and choosing how to react to those emotions is what makes us human. It's what separates us from animals. Plus, it gives weight and meaning to the best traits of mankind. Running into a burning building to save a baby is bravery because it's done in spite of the emotion of fear inside you. A person is patient because they choose to be kind and caring towards another even though that other person incites anger inside them. Take away emotion and these just become empty acts.

  14. I wouldn't get rid of any emotions. The bad, as well as the good, make life worth living.

  15. Probably not. As bad as they are sometimes, I wouldn`t feel right without them.

  16. That would be so tempting, to never feel fear or pain or hurt, but I'd have to go with no, there's a reason for all of it.
